2010 CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT
"EARTH HOME"
You are invited to participate in a classroom contest with the topic, "Earth Home" sponsored by Society of Petroleum Engineers and Central Coast Education Collaborative. Our goal is to provide a
format for students to create displays with information, tied to the state science standards and relevant to many of the issues we face in our Earth's ecology and conservation.
Contest categories will be divided by primary (1st-3rd grades) , intermediate (4th-6th grades) and upper grades
(7th-12th grades). Each category has a cash prize.

Judging Criteria
CONTENT: 60% WEIGHTED VALUE
- Evident Grasp of Topic and Selected Theme
- Depth and Accuracy of Information
- Reliability of sources
- Gathering and interpreting data, maps, etc.
- Adherence To The Theme
- Select one or combine multiple ideas or concepts
- Relevance
- Material and information are related to the project theme and selected topic(s)
PRESENTATION : 30% WEIGHTED VALUE
- Student Participation and Involvement vs. Teacher Input
- Creativity and Originality in Addressing Theme
- Appropriate Use of Media For Presentation of Data
- Format, Layout, Clarity of Message
- Artistic Appeal
- Use of color and texture
- Effective use of animation and other graphic enhancements (PowerPoint Contest)
- Attention to Detail
- Spelling, grammar and punctuation
