Grant Overview
The Education Collaborative is an effort of the Santa Maria section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Oil & Gas Industry to support the academic efforts of teachers and students in the areas of math and science.
Eligibility:
- Current funding initiatives are limited to projects in Santa Barbara County
- Any kindergarten-12th grade teacher, group of teachers, or administrator in the geographic area referenced above.
- Grant requests should not exceed $1500 unless prior approval has been given.
Grant Proposal Guidelines:
The following information must be included in grant proposals submitted for consideration. Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.

The Education Collaborative and the SPE - Santa Maria Chapter are operated solely by volunteers. As such, notification will only be provided to the approved grant proposals within two weeks of submittal deadline dates.
Fundraising efforts vary from year to year. Since we expect to receive funding requests far in excess of our ability to fund, not all projects can be funded. A decision not to fund a proposal does not reflect on the merits of the applicant or the value of the proposal.

Evaluation Criteria:
Does the proposal clearly define the math and science components of the project?
(Preference will be given to the proposals that include an energy-related theme).
Are the goals and intended outcome of the proposal clearly defined?
Is the budget detailed, reasonable and understandable?
Does the project have a clear timetable and evaluation procedure?
